Yavapai-Apache Nation Hosts Annual Exodus Commemoration Event February 27

The Yavapai-Apache Nation will host its annual Exodus Commemoration Event on February 27 at the Veterans Memorial Park, located below Cliff Castle Casino. The annual Exodus Event commemorates the Yavapai and Apache forced removal in 1875 from the Verde Valley and the return of the people in 1900, after 25 years of internment at the San Carlos Apache Reservation.

 

The commemoration will begin at 6 a.m. at Enchantment Resort for the Blessing Ceremony at Boynton Canyon. Following the ceremony, the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park in Middle Verde.

 

The Veterans Memorial Park event schedule is as follows:

 

10 a.m. Commemorative March/Return of Exodus Runners from San Carlos

 

12 p.m. Complimentary Community Lunch

 

1 p.m. Cultural Entertainment including dance groups from Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Havasupai, Hualapai, Salt River Maricopa Indian Community, the Hopi Tribe, San Carlos, White Mountain Apache and Yavapai-Apache Nation
